Dr Bill Walter joined this practice 9 years ago and has been involved in over 2000 hip and knee replacements. He is a member of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons, Australian Orthopaedic Association and the Arthroplasty Society of Australia.

patients with hip and knee problems, from those with
arthritic joints requiring straightforward replacement
to patients with complex anatomical joint problems
(dysplasia) and specific conditions, such as Pagets disease and avascular necrosis. Dr Walter also
treats patients who require surgery when a primary joint

fracture, dislocation, infection and osteolysis.

include:
- Hip replacement
- Hip resurfacing
- Hip arthroscopy
- Hip replacement revision surgery, including

- Knee replacement revision surgery
Dr Walter completed a fellowship in Adult Reconstructive
Surgery at the prestigious Hospital for Special Surgery in New
York, where he became familiar with the techniques of some of
America’s greatest hip & knee surgeons, including Dr Thomas
Sculco, Dr Eduardo Salvati, Dr Russ Windsor, Dr Richard Laskin,
Dr Steve Haas, Dr Paul Pellici and others. His experience
includes 10 years working alongside eminent Australian surgeon,
Dr William K Walter.
Dr William L Walter is highly regarded for his outstanding research, which has been published in the most critically reviewed and prestigious international journals including the Journal of Arthoplasty and Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery. A list published works and abstracts can be found on this website at www.sydneyhipandkneesurgeons.com.au/published_works.html. Dr Walter holds a PhD in surgery and is considered a leading thinker and key influencer in the orthopaedic community. Dr Walter is a highly sought speaker at international meetings, in Europe and America & Australia. He was invited by Dr Daniel Berry (Chair, Orthopedic Surgery Department, Mayo Clinic) to speak at a Symposium at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) in San Francisco in February 2008 before an audience of approximately 3,000 surgeons. He was again asked to speak at the AAOS in February 2009 at the invitation of Dr Joshua Jacobs (Chair, Orthopaedic Surgery Department, Rush University Medical Centre, Chicago). Dr Walter was invited to become a member of the American Association of Hip & Knee Surgeons by the then President of the association, Dr William Hozack (Rothman Institute, Philadelphia). He is one of only two Australian members.
He voluntarily assists the Australian Orthopaedic Association as a member of training committee which facilitates the training of doctors completing the orthopaedic surgery training program.
Dr Walter operates only at the Mater Hospital in Crows Nest, Sydney. It has the largest through put of joint replacements in Australia and thus is very well equipped to handle patients who have joint replacement surgery. The experience of the nurses and other medical staff in theatres, and on the wards at the Mater, is a major reason why Dr Walter chooses to operate there.
Hip replacement and knee replacement surgery leads to a very successful outcome for the increasing number of patients with debilitating arthritis and other conditions. Dr Walter derives great satisfaction from seeing his patients do well from their surgery and return to an active and fulfilling lifestyle.
On a personal note, Dr Walter loves the ocean and is a keen kayaker and kite surfer. You'll often find him on the water around Middle Head at sunrise. He's married with three young sons. His sons greatly appreciate his exceptional ability to 'fix' anything!
